1988 was the first year we got a Happy Holidays Barbie. This has since been
the longest running collectors series. At first Mattel only made blonde
dolls, but a couple years in, in 1990, the first AA version was released and
has so been since.
1997 had a blonde version too (the mass produced doll had brown hair this
year), but she was special edition, sold exclusively
to members of The Barbie Club via the Mattel store.
Head sculpts used the first decade were Superstar Barbie with Christie for
the AA versions, but the last doll, of 1998 had the Mackie and Nichelle
faces.
